Communication Technician (Hughesville Office)

Job Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain various communication systems that meet the needs and requirements of internal customers, including SCADA networks, fiber-optics, two-way and microwave radio, access control, video solutions, etc.
  • Deploy, secure and maintain cell modem, satellite and radio networks to provide maximum availability of field data.
  • Administer and support day to day tasks of the company’s SCADA systems.
  • Perform regular maintenance and upgrades to communication systems to ensure they’re running efficiently and effectively.
  • Monitor communication systems for any issues and provide timely support to resolve any problems that arise.
  • Work cooperatively with other team members, internal customers and manage contractors to coordinate project activities, provide technical assistance and support, and schedule activities.
  • Research and stay up-to-date with new technologies that could be utilized as communication solutions.
  • Generate technology standards documents and communication infrastructure documentation, including network diagrams.
  • Maintain inventory, spare parts and tools in assigned work vehicle.
  • Maintain and stay up-to-date with industry certifications.
  • Provide 24 X 7 on-call support
  • Travel as needed to different field and office locations.
  • Complete additional tasks as requested, including but not limited to:
    • Assists with helpdesk support cases for end-users throughout the company.
    • Helps with field operations, such I&E technicians, assisting with new location hook-ups, troubleshooting and general support.

Experience/Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, IT related field or minimum of 5 years of related work experience.
  • Experience administering a SCADA system is preferred.
  • Experience programming Remote Terminal Units.
  • Experience with network protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VLANs.
  • Experience installing and maintaining solar panels, boosters and antennas.
  • Experience with RS232/485 serial communications.
  • Maintain and hold a current issued FCC license.
  • Must be able to multi-task and plan new projects. Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage, organize and prioritize work, while maintaining strong attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated with a questioning attitude to continue to learn, produce results, and strengthen existing relationships.
