GIS Technician

Personal Qualifications:

  • Must be proficient with ESRI’s ArcMap/ArcGIS Pro and have an understanding of ESRI’s geospatial tools/extensions, as well as relational databases.
  • Must possess excellent computer skills utilizing Microsoft Office Suite products and a willingness to further develop computer and technical skills.
  • Must be able to work independently or as a Team member and be self-motivated.
  • Must maintain a high level of detail and accuracy with all work assignments.
  • Must have good communication, writing and analytical skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for creating on-demand maps and supporting datasets for end users in other departments.
  • Assist with loading GIS repository or subscription-based datasets to ESRI feature datasets as scheduled.  May also include sharing this data across various software platforms such as Portal or to various departmental groups.
  • Assist with the management of PGE’s GIS bonded roads and associated driving directions for our operations along predefined transportation routes.
  • Assist with requesting and maintaining the 911 addressing for natural gas-based sites while interacting with each counties Emergency Services.
  • Assist with maintaining Pipeline\ROW dataset as needed.  Also assist with processing PA1CALL notifications.
  • Assist with preparing unit, pipeline and land exhibits to support Land\Legal document requirements.
  • Assist with property deed analysis using COGO\deed plotter software.  Heads up digitizing and boundary survey retracements will also be utilized.
  • Assist with the management of Trimble GPS hand held units for navigation, collection, processing and posting to features and maps.  Maintenance of units and occasional field data collection could occur.  ArcGIS Field Maps will be a strong consideration as an addition or replacement to our GPS hand held units in the near future.
  • Assist with loading geological datasets to LMKR Geographix software.
  • Assist with managing PA Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) public oil and gas reports.  Other subscription-based well reports will also be part of this report group.

Educational\Work Qualifications:

  • Education requirements include A.S./B.S. Degree in GIS, Geology, Geography, Cartography, Engineering, Environmental Science or related areas of study.
  • Energy Industry work experience is beneficial but not required.
  • AutoCAD training and experience is beneficial but not required.
